Biography

George Bonheyo is a biomedical scientist in the National Security Directorate at PNNL and holds a joint appointment as a research professor of bioengineering with Washington State University. He received his PhD in microbiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and studied geomicrobiology and polymicrobial diseases as a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow. From 2005 to 2018 he was a senior research scientist at PNNL’s Marine Sciences Laboratory in Sequim, WA and was the biotechnology team lead for 25 staff from 2015-2018. Dr Bonheyo served on the leadership team of PNNL’s $16M Signature Discovery Initiative from 2009-2016 and has been the PI, co-I, or PM on over $37M in externally funded projects. Prior to 2005, he was the co-founder and CEO of the biotechnology startup GeoBiologics, Inc., in Champaign, Illinois.
