Advisor, Stakeholder Engagement

Biography

Graffy joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in 2021 as a stakeholder engagement advisor. In this role, she leads and facilitates research and collaboration to support inclusiveness, equity, and resiliency in climate and energy projects and policies. A scholar-practitioner with extensive government experience, Graffy is a public policy expert specializing in institutional leadership and innovation, the science-policy interface, and contemporary models of public engagement. She has particular interest in issues involving risk and rapid change.

Prior to joining PNNL, Graffy was a professor of practice at Arizona State University in the School for the Future of Innovation in Society and a senior sustainability scientist in the Global Institute of Sustainability and Innovation. Graffy also directed the national Sustainable Energy, Equity and Knowledge-Sharing project, which works with hard-to-reach and underserved communities in the clean energy economy and in climate action in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency. She also co-led Department of Energy funded work aimed at discovering how to design solar energy projects in ways that benefit low-income communities in Puerto Rico and was a key contributor to a solar development initiative with the Navajo Nation. From 2006 – 2009, Graffy served as the national coordinator and liaison to the White House for the National Environmental Status and Trends Initiative under the Office of the Secretary for the Department of the Interior.
