Biography

As EED's Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Dale King is responsible for operational oversight and execution of a $290 million energy and environment business portfolio across five research divisions and four project management offices. As a member of the EED management team, he works in close collaboration with his colleagues to ensure strategy execution through capability development and stewardship of about 1,200+ EED staff and associated facilities and equipment, enabling researcher productivity, project execution and expert delivery, operational and financial performance, and safe and environmentally responsible operations.

Prior to his COO role, Mr. King served as an EED Project Management Office Director (PMOD) since 2011, first as the PMOD for Energy Science & Technology, and more recently as the PMOD for Processing & Manufacturing Technologies. In these roles, Mr. King was responsible for project execution and risk mitigation for a majority of EED's two largest and fastest growing sponsors, Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) and Office of Electricity (OE). The two PMOD roles he's served in cover $184 million of EED's $288 million in business volume.

In his 20 years at PNNL, Mr. King has taken on roles including project manager, team leader, and research engineer. Prior to joining PNNL, Mr. King worked at Hewlett-Packard Co. as a senior development engineer and SEH America as a senior process engineer. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University.
