Biography

Chris Klasen, MBA, PMP, is a project manager in the Energy & Environment Directorate with a portfolio of 14 projects across several areas of the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE).

His portfolio averages a business volume of $2,000,000 annually, including projects in geothermal technologies research and development, vehicle technologies research and development, and technology commercialization.

Since joining PNNL in 2008, Chris has coordinated more than 250 individual proposal development opportunities, ranging in size from $10,000 to $5,000,000.

As a proposal manager/coordinator, Chris manages proposal development opportunities throughout their individual lifecycles. This process includes developing schedules, building templates, executing reviews, ensuring compliance, assigning roles and responsibilities, and monitoring and controlling individual efforts through submission. Collateral duties include directorate-level process improvement projects, directorate-level training seminars pertaining to business capture and proposal development, development and management of a laboratory-level proposal development website that increases the proposal development process, and development and management of the EED Proposal Portal.

Chris previously worked at NewEdge Inc., where he developed and delivered complex marketing consulting projects. He served four years in the U.S. Navy as an Operations Specialist 2nd Class, a Group Manager, and a Search and Rescue Swimmer.

Chris earned his B.A. at Old Dominion University, his MBA at Colorado State University, and his Project Management Professional license from the Project Management Institute.
