Biography

Charles has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Washington State University and a Master’s Degree in Biological Engineering, also from Washington State University. At Washington State University, Charles performed algae cultivation with bioreactors and extraction of targeted compounds from those algae species.

Charles started work at PNNL as part of the Energy Policy and Economics Group in 2016, working with technology tracking for emerging programs in buildings technologies. In 2022, he joined the Residential Buildings Integration program to research and develop training materials for workforce upskilling for technicians working with high performance HVAC technologies. He is currently a member of PNNL's Energy Technology Deployment group and is working to help manage the Energy Skilled recognition project.

Charles also conducts chemical impurity analyses and report writing for the Tritium Technology Program as part of the Pellet Analytical Chemistry team, which he joined in 2018.  Charles has also contributed to other projects at PNNL, including cataloguing testbed capabilities for the Grid Management Laboratory Consortium, conducting reassessments on resource availability for bioenergy projects, and reviewing feedback on Energy and Water Army security measures.
