Join the Department of Energy, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, and the 16 other national laboratories as they commemorate Earth Day 2022
As part of Earth Day 2022, the Department of Energy is celebrating with a virtual “sunrise-to-sunset” event where all 17 national laboratories will provide a series of tours, activities, short talks, and panels geared towards K-12 students.
Tune in at 1 p.m. PT when researchers from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) will present “The Flooded Classroom: A virtual exploration of a coastal ecosystem.” STEM ambassadors and PNNL scientists, Cailene Gunn, Allison Myers-Pigg, and Peter Regier, will present a one-of-a-kind, 360-degree virtual tour of an in-field research site. They’ll discuss the impact flood events, rising tides, and changes in sea levels can have on trees, plants, soil, and water.
All are invited to join (community members, teachers, students, etc.); however, PNNL’s session will include activities designed to engage high school students. In addition to the virtual tour and presentation, PNNL will also be sharing a teacher’s guide that educators can use to incorporate the activity in their classroom.
