About This Workshop

REGISTRATION is NOW CLOSED.

The Grid Equipment Impacts from Heat Domes, Polar Vortexes, and Severe Ice Workshop is a day-long, in-person workshop put on by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), in partnership with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and DRG Tech Solutions. Attendees will refine and prioritize research efforts aimed at addressing the challenges posed by natural hazards on power grid equipment. The workshop will strongly focus on managing the negative impacts of heat- and cold-related hazards, specifically heat domes, polar vortexes, and severe ice.

This workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Impacts of these natural hazards on power grid equipment
  • Current methods for prevention, monitoring, and mitigation of impacts
  • Technology gaps in managing the negative impacts
  • Research priorities to address technology gaps
