Environmental Monitoring, Control, and Remediation
The harsh environment of space and other worlds requires exquisite environmental monitoring, control, and response. Placing humans in this high-risk environment will also require extensive monitoring and support.
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) leads research and development for environmental safety, monitoring, and remediation. We integrate scientific understanding with applied engineering to develop and implement technologies that protect people and the environment from the risks of contamination.
For example, PNNL monitors and studies the air, vegetation, water, sediments, and lifeforms. We also offer a variety of methods, sensors, and acoustic transmitters for tracking and studying fish, animals, and organisms. Additionally, our researchers provide defensible measurements of current environments and model anticipated future risks.
This work can be translated to support operations in new and different environments in space.
