Hydropower Training
The TORCH Hydropower Training aims to provide context and activities that allow participants to comprehend the importance of hydroelectric power in the world. U.S. hydroelectric power is one of the oldest and largest renewable energy sources. The natural flow of water produces 20 percent of all the world’s electricity, with the United States generating 10 percent of its electricity from hydropower facilities.
The United States is second only to Canada as the largest producer of hydropower in the world. Hydropower is also the most efficient way to produce electricity at an average of 0.85 cents per kilowatt-hour.
The modules in this section provide knowledge on hydropower fundamentals. Each module also contains a hands-on activity with instructions and hyperlinks to reinforce and challenge participants. Completing the Hydropower Training prepares the participants for success in the Cybersecurity Training section.
The Hydropower Training section consists of four modules:
- History of Hydropower
- Hydroelectric Dam Technology
- Hydropower Physics
- Environmental and Regulatory Drivers
