Provides a literature review of hardware requirements of Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS) and algorithms in use for state estimation. Provides latency and bandwidth capabilities of distributed communication infrastructure, likely communication systems around microgrids, and how they meet the requirements of grid edge resources and DERMS, and state estimation algorithms. A literature review is performed toward the development of an algorithm for use with the DERMS-Red Cave system for verification of state change commands at the grid edge using real-time automation controller.
