Results
- Under extreme system conditions such as heat waves and wildfires, HVDC transmission flexibility can reduce unserved energy by 24.8 to 28%. In some areas, the benefits amount to 50 to 70%. The higher values correspond to HVDC in loop/network configurations and the lower numbers to HVDC in radial configurations.
- When analyzing hourly unserved energy, a reduction from 11 GW to 6 GW can be obtained by optimizing flexible transmission.
- The short-term flexibility analysis indicates that further reduction from 11 GW to 2 GW is possible if additional remote wind generation output became available.
