Haynie awarded prestigious honor for contributions to Vietnamese radiological source security

Todd Haynie

Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) Deputy Minister Pham Cong Tac awarded the Medal for the Cause of Science and Technology to PNNL's Todd Haynie, Project Manager for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Radiological Security (ORS) East Asia Pacific Region. The award was presented on behalf of MOST Minister Chu Ngoc Anh in early November.

The medal recognizes Haynie's project management support to the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) over the past six years. These efforts have included managing security enhancements and the coordination of numerous security trainings and workshops to sustain security systems at sites containing category 1 and 2 radiological sources. Through Haynie's dedication, VARANS, their licensees, and the U.S. Department of Energy ORS have developed strong partnerships and positioned Vietnam as a regional leader in radiological source security.

This was the first Medal for the Cause of Science and Technology bestowed to a recipient supporting VARANS activities according to Director of VARANS Professor Nguyen Tuan Khai.
