National Security
Associate Laboratory
Director

Providing vision, leadership,
and strategic direction in
keeping our nation safe and secure

Protecting U.S. citizens and visitors is among our nation’s highest priorities. Threats continue to grow more dynamic and complex—from cyber and nuclear to chemical and biological weapons of mass effect and other forms of terrorism—and we are looking for a leader to join us in developing science-based solutions that keep America safe.

We are seeking an Associate Laboratory Director (ALD) for National Security. Our ideal candidate will lead a diverse and dedicated team of 1,300 professionals charged with advancing the ability to secure our nation’s borders and critical infrastructure, combat global terrorism, and detect weapons of mass effect and concealed explosives and threats. PNNL scientists and engineers provide cyber solutions to protect the homeland and we are the leading provider of science and technology to support nuclear nonproliferation efforts for U.S. and international treaty monitoring systems.

PNNL is a U.S. Department of Energy multi-program national laboratory providing critical capabilities to the DOE, National Nuclear Security Administration, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, and other government agencies.

As a member of the PNNL Leadership Team, the ALD for National Security contributes to setting the overall strategic direction of PNNL. This person oversees PNNL’s national security portfolio of nonproliferation and cybersecurity research and capabilities that enable stronger, more resilient technologies and systems.

Coupled with decades of radiological and nuclear science expertise, advanced computing capabilities, and a broad fundamental science base, the ALD for National Security leads the charge to counter emerging threats that have significant impact at home and around the globe.
