Autonomous Voltage Response for Distributed Energy Resources

Abstract

An implementation of stable droop voltage response for distributed energy resources (DER) is described. The key point is to use a new “autonomously adjusting reference voltage” as described in IEEE Standard 1547-2018. Examples include battery voltage response, a photovoltaic inverter at the end of a long secondary circuit, and 18 photovoltaic inverters on a distribution lateral. Default inverter settings are proposed for DER that would mitigate voltage fluctuations, with or without communications.
