PNNL's Policy on Integrated Safety Management and Environmental Management Systems — P23/004
At PNNL, we value human life and strive to provide a workplace free of occupational injuries and illnesses. We value the environment and protect it, the public, and future generations from unacceptable risks resulting from PNNL operations. To further this goal, PNNL has adopted standards, guidelines, and processes, and implemented comprehensive integrated safety management and environmental management systems. Employees are required to comply with all standards, guidelines, and processes; all elements of the integrated safety management and environmental management systems; and any applicable laws or regulations regarding safety, and environmental protection.
If an employee witnesses any unsafe conditions or uncontrolled hazards, they must report the situation to their immediate manager immediately. Employees must also report any work-related injuries, illnesses, incidents, or negative impacts to the environment as soon as possible, regardless of the severity. Every employee has the right to stop work or decline an assigned task because of a reasonable belief that the task poses an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury.
PNNL prohibits any form of discipline, reprisal, intimidation, or retaliation for stopping work, reporting an environment, safety, or health concern, or violations of policy, or for cooperating in related investigations.
