Tycko Franklin
Tycko Franklin
Biography
Tycko Franklin has worked at PNNL since 2017 as a Software Engineer specializing in full-stack web application development. Tycko has extensive experience in both native and cloud-based development, but more recently is focusing on the latter as cloud-first policy has emerged as a priority with many PNNL sponsors. He started programming in the early 2000s, joining several projects as a hobby. These led to an internship at a national forecasting company, working in the APL programming language. Tycko found his passion for web development in 2010 while working with web scrapers and customization scripts for existing websites.
During his time at PNNL, Tycko has worked as a frontend developer, a backend developer, automated regression testing developer, continuous integration and continuous deployment architect, and an Amazon Web Services (AWS) architect and developer. Tycko learns from and helps fellow developers, and he mentors interns and other junior staff.
Tycko leads 10+ direct reports in day-to-day management of all aspects of the software development life cycle, including design, frontend development, backend development, testing, and theoretical guidance from subject matter experts. Tycko divides his leadership role and expertise across a wide variety of domains within the Department of Defense and Department of Energy. Tycko focuses on more modern development frameworks, such as REACT Single Page API, and has experience with an extensive library of client-side APIs. On the backend, Tycko works with AWS technology to provide scalable, secure, and robust applications.
