Biography

Mike Huyck is the acting associate laboratory director of the Operational Systems Directorate (OSD) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). In this role, Huyck is responsible for the overall performance and stewardship of OSD and its integration with other PNNL organizations to achieve the PNNL mission. This includes managing facilities and infrastructure; environment, health, safety, and security programs; project management; and nuclear operations. 

Huyck has 39 years of experience in industrial, nuclear, and laboratory operations and management, including project and line management of hazard category 1, 2, and 3 nuclear facilities, radiological facilities, research/analytical/production laboratories, and utilities. He has a broad span of project management experience as well, including spent fuel, reactor outage management, and heavy construction. His experience includes managing a $150M operating budget and a $1.2B project portfolio. He was previously a business owner, providing nuclear and technical services to both the U.S. government and Fortune 500 companies in the United States and Canada.

Huyck holds both master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Idaho, with studies in electronics, human performance, accident investigation, and cause analysis.
