Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics Recognizes Steve Ashby as 2020 Fellow

Steven Ashby, director of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, has been named a 2020 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Fellow.

Steven Ashby, director of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory has been named a 2020 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Fellow for his exemplary scientific leadership, outstanding service to SIAM, and important contributions to the field of computational science.

Throughout his career, Ashby has promoted computational science through application, scientific leadership, and community service. “Steve has shared his perspective and insight into science policy and the workings of the federal government with SIAM,” said Thomas A. Manteuffel, professor emeritus of applied mathematics at University of Colorado Boulder and SIAM Fellow. “He has been an active member of SIAM over his entire career. One of his significant contributions was to help create the SIAM Computational and Science Engineering Group, for which he became the founding chair of the largest and possibly the most successful SIAM Activity Group.”

SIAM is a leading international organization of 14,500 that includes professionals, students, researchers, educators, and practitioners from more than 100 countries working in industry, laboratories, government, and academia. Its mission is to advance and raise awareness about applied math and related fields through its books, journals, conferences, online resources, and various programs and initiatives.

Steve is one of 28 SIAM 2020 Fellows to be recognized for their achievements.
