Murugesan Takes New Editorial Roles
Vijay Murugesan assumes editorial roles at Frontiers in journals
Vijay Murugesan, a physicist and materials science group leader at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), was named to editorial roles in two new Frontiers in journals. Murugesan will be specialty chief editor for Frontiers in Batteries and Electrochemistry. Murugesan was also named an associate editor of Frontiers in Energy Research—Nano Energy.
Frontiers in journals are open-access publications that span across scientific disciplines. The organization’s goal is to “make science open—so that scientists can collaborate better and innovate faster to deliver the solutions that enable healthy lives on a healthy planet.”
In his role as specialty chief editor for Frontiers in Batteries and Electrochemistry, Murugesan will oversee the Battery Systems and Applications section. This section focuses on “the properties and performance of electrochemical storage devices to advance battery systems and their applications.” Murugesan will help set journal topic area priorities and highlight emerging research within the field. Specialty chief editors also provide direct support and guidance to the journal’s editorial board.
Frontiers in Nano Energy “focuses on research and development of nanotechnology, nanomaterials and wider understanding of their properties for advancing and revolutionizing the field of nano-energy technologies.” It publishes a wide range of research broadly centered on nanotechnology. As an associate editor, Murugesan will handle initial manuscript reviews and oversee interactions between reviewers and authors.
At PNNL since 2008, Murugesan’s research focuses on charge and mass transfer across heterogeneous interfaces and materials. He also explores the chemical stability and resilience of energy storage materials. Murugesan became a focus area lead for the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR), the Department of Energy‘s energy storage hub. Through JCESR, Murugesan leads a multidisciplinary team of scientists across national laboratories and universities.
