Sten Lambeets has been recognized by the Microscopy Society of America (MSA) with a 2020 Postdoctoral Scholar Award for his paper, “In-situ and In-operando Cobalt Oxidation studied by Atom Probe Tomography.” His paper describes how he uniquely combined all three field ion/emission techniques (field ion microscopy, field emission microscopy, and atom probe tomography) in a correlative manner to reveal the dynamics of the early stages of oxidation in the Rh-O system. Lambeets is a molecular and bioimaging & cellular dynamics researcher at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). He is a Linus Pauling Postdoctoral Fellow who continues to innovate in the area of heterogenous catalysis using the in situ gas-phase reactor that he commissioned as a visiting graduate student.
At PNNL, Lambeets’s positive reputation for innovative experimental design using the in situ gas-phase reactor has attracted other research groups who have begun to integrate his expertise into a broad range of materials new to Lambeets, including nuclear materials science.
