Littoral Wave Tank at PNNL-Sequim
PNNL-Sequim has a littoral wave tank available for research purposes. The mesoscale (5,678 L) circular wave tank (548 cm length x 200 cm width x 152 cm height) is constructed out of 0.25-inch highly corrosion-resistant stainless 316L steel. Waves are generated at one end of the circular tank via a computer controlled wave board that is capable of delivering a range of frequencies (0-60 Hz) and strokes (0-0.2 m). The wave generator also contains a beach module with two large observational windows that allow users to study physical and chemical processes at the sediment-water interface.
Inside the tank, there is a large heat-exchanger unit that allows for rapid cooling or heating of seawater in the tank. This wave tank has two large opposing windows for observation and six sampling ports with waterproof septa.
