Once again, high schoolers from across Washington State will gather in teams of five to show off their science chops at the Department of Energy’s annual Science Bowl. First launched in 1991, the competition sees high school teams compete against one another in a series of questions covering topics in biology, chemistry, Earth sciences, physics, energy, and math.

Teams compete regionally at the Pacific Northwest Regional Science Bowl with the winner advancing to the National Science Bowl. Last year, Redmond High School earned first place in the region. We’ll see if they can repeat their victory this year.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, February 26th. The competition will be virtual, with teams joining via Zoom.

Special thanks to the crew of volunteers that make the event possible. Volunteers from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, U.S. Department of Energy Office of River Protection, Framatome, Bechtel, Columbia Basin College, MOHR, LIGO Hanford, MSA, and other universities helped make the event a reality.
