The Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) will hold the hybrid 2023 Hydropower Environmental and Industry Research and Development (R&D) Summit on Tuesday, April 25, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. ET. The summit will bring together representatives from both environmental and industry hydropower groups to gather input on the current R&D needs in the hydropower community. Invited attendees will share insights on the technological and scientific needs for sustainable hydropower in the United States.

At the 2023 R&D Summit, participants will:

  • Learn about the current WPTO hydropower research portfolio and strategy.
  • Discuss hydropower R&D needs and how they might be met.
  • Identify opportunities for the hydropower community to work together to address R&D needs.

Discussion topics will include: 

  • Testing needs and centers
  • Fish passage technology
  • Water availability
  • Sensors and real-time monitoring
