All Source Sensor Analysis (ASSA)

Technology Overview

All Source Sensor Analysis or ASSA is a prototype platform designed to index streaming or archived digital data (including images, video, and audio) and search for patterns within indexed data. Currently, top search engines rely on text based searches using metadata tags, yet massive amounts of potentially useful digital data remains untagged and therefore unsearchable for any number of uses. ASSA brings the power and functionality of a search engine to data that lacks this context, and to users who may not be able to characterize their desired search results in words.

The potential uses of this breakthrough technology are too numerous and individualized to list. Broadly, ASSA allows users to select portions of digital media such as photos, or video or audio clips - classifying, locating, and organizing similar instances of the selected place, object, person, or sound of interest using a pattern classification algorithm.

When fully developed, ASSA would:

  • Not require metadata tags
  • Search digital devices, digital storage archives, hard drives, or network traffic for patterns of interest
  • Be computationally efficient and scalably parallel - the more parallel processing hardware made available to ASSA, the faster the indexing and search algorithms run
