Dr. Katrina Waters is the division director for Biological Sciences at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Waters has a Ph.D. in biochemistry and more than 15 years of experience in microarray and proteomics data analysis. Her research interests are focused on the integration of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and high-throughput screening data to enable predictive mechanistic modeling of disease and toxicity pathways. Her current programs include dose-response modeling of toxicant exposures, mechanistic understanding of PAH mixtures bioactivity, and network modeling of host-pathogen interactions during lethal human viral infections. She leads the Computational Modeling Core for the University of Wisconsin Center for Predictive Modeling of Infectious Diseases, led by Dr. Yoshihiro Kawaoka, the Biostatistics and Modeling Core for the Oregon State University NIEHS Superfund program, led by Dr. Robert Tanguay, and a Department of Homeland Security program for Predictive Modeling of Viral Infections.

Research Interests

  • Pathway-based biomarker discovery for environmental exposure to toxicants, including disease susceptibility factors.
  • High-throughput screening approaches for hazard assessment and mechanism-based risk assessment.
  • Predictive modeling of lethal human viral infections, including influenza, SARS, Ebola and West Nile Virus.
  • Development of computational tools for integration of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and high-throughput data.
