Centralized, decentralized, or an 'each organization on its own' approach - which have you selected? Could a decentralized approach be appropriate for your organization? Increasingly, many organizations consist of very broad complex environments, with disparate systems and complex equipment, communications, and information technology (IT) requirements and demands. As companies become increasingly aware of the Year 2000 (Y2K) problem, management is forced to make decisions about how to approach Y2K assessment and remediation needs. Providing a solid framework for making these business decisions is a key objective in remediating systems and products to achieve Y2K compliance. The assessment process itself has been compared to finding a needle in a haystack. Simply defining the scope of the problem has proven to be an expensive endeavor in most companies. In addressing the Y2K problem from the highest levels of the enterprise, management must take a realistic view of the critical objectives that must be accomplished.
