Biography

Xin Zhang received his PhD in chemical engineering from Texas Tech University in 2014. He is a staff scientist in the Physical Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. His research focuses on materials synthesis, surface science, and crystal growth – particularly on exploring the nucleation, crystallization, particle aggregation, dissolution, ion/molecular adsorption, and phase transformation of nanocrystals in various environments using advanced in situ and ex situ techniques such as in situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) and in situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

He has authored over 120 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Science, PNAS, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), with an h-index of 36. He edited two books for the American Chemical Society: Crystallization via Nonclassical Pathways, Volumes 1 and 2. He has authored several book chapters and holds 12 patents.
