Paul Wilson
Paul Wilson
Biography
Dr. Paul Wilson is a senior biomedical scientist specializing in radiation biology. Paul earned a PhD in cellular and molecular radiobiology from Colorado State University (CSU) and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in DNA repair at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). His research is funded by NASA and NASA's Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH), NIAID's Radiation and Nuclear Countermeasures Program (RNCP), and DOE/NNSA. He and his team study the impacts of ionizing radiation exposures across a broad range of doses, dose rates, and linear energy transfer values using in vitro cell culture and in vivoanimal models; identify and test promising radiation medical countermeasures; and evaluate impacts of inter-individual genetic variation on radiation-associated health risks in exposed populations, including individuals inadvertently exposed during nuclear/radiological emergencies and astronauts on extended deep space missions. Paul is the PNNL lead for the Washington State BioS-ENDURES NASA Space Biology consortium (https://bios-endures.space) and also serves as a PNNL Laboratory Detailee to DOE's Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER), Biological Systems Science Division (BSSD) for which he provides radiobiology and radiation physics expertise and assists in managing BER's Low Dose Radiation Research Program (LDRRP).
