Biography

Dr. Minghui Lu is a Research Engineer at the Optimization and Control Group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) from Sep. 2023. His research expertise mainly lies in the field of power electronics, grid-forming inverters, converter hardware and modeling, and distributed control. His pioneering contributions have concentrated on developing architectural and control algorithmic foundations for power electronics inverters in low-inertia power grids, linear and nonlinear distributed control theory for robust and resilient power system operation. He has had significant technical responsibility for multi-million-dollar DOE-funded projects that have impact on both industry and academia. He is also the recipient of research awards, including the 2023 IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics Prize Paper Award, 2020 IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion Outstanding Reviewer Award. He is listed among the world top 2% scientists in the global list compiled by Stanford University for the calendar year 2022.

Dr. Lu has authored 50 peer-reviewed publications with over 1000 citations. Prior to joining PNNL, he was a research associate at the University of Washington Seattle, and University of Texas at Austin, where he collaborated with faculties on the topic of scalable control architecture for 100% PV penetration with grid-forming inverters. Dr. Lu received his Ph.D. from Aalborg University in power electronics engineering in 2017, master's and bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering from top Chinese universities in 2014 and 2011, respectively.
