Biography

Megan Henderson is a dynamic leader in energy communications.

Spearheading strategic communications for the electricity infrastructure and grid sector at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), Henderson is responsible for developing and executing internal and external communications plans to advance and elevate PNNL’s mission and reputation in the energy space. 

In this multifaceted role, Henderson serves as communications manager for the Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium, a partnership among the Department of Energy (DOE) and 14 national laboratories focused on the resiliency of the nation’s power grid. She leads communications for high-impact, energy-related events, such as the Beyond Lithium Ion XV Conference and the dedication of the Grid Storage Launchpad—a $75 million energy storage research and development facility funded by the DOE’s Office of Electricity. 

Through her leadership, Henderson effectively highlights critical innovations and research, fosters stronger engagement among stakeholders, and advances key initiatives. Her ability to communicate complex technical innovations to diverse audiences assures that PNNL’s groundbreaking work reaches policymakers, industry leaders, and the broader public.

Prior to joining PNNL, Henderson spent nearly a decade leading communications efforts at Duke Energy Corporation, one of America’s largest energy holding companies. During her tenure, Henderson led issues management and crisis communications, acting as a spokesperson to navigate reputational risk of the organization. She drove transformational business initiatives in the solar and battery energy storage sectors, played a key role in guiding high-value projects, and positioned the company as a leader in renewable energy through thoughtful stakeholder engagement, strategic media relations, and educational outreach initiatives. 

As testament to her commitment to excellence, Henderson is consistently recognized for her contributions to the energy industry and her workplace, most recently receiving the 2025 Battery Council International Innovation Award and two Outstanding Performance Awards for excellence in communications. In 2024, she was the recipient of the U.S. Secretary of Energy's Secretary's Honor Award for science and innovation for the Grid Storage Launch Pad. Henderson continues to receive peer recognition and numerous accolades for delivering impactful communications and for enhancing organizational culture.
