Katrina Waters is a Laboratory Fellow and Chief Scientist in biological sciences research at PNNL. Her research interests are focused on the integration of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and high-throughput screening data to enable predictive mechanistic modeling of disease and toxicity pathways. Her current programs include modeling of host-pathogen interactions during lethal human viral infections to identify new therapeutic targets using synthetic biology approaches and personal environmental exposure assessment for epidemiological studies in disadvantaged communities. With over 130 publications, she has built a national and international reputation through her leadership and innovation in data integration and its application to biomarker discovery, infectious disease, and toxicology. She has led numerous research efforts in computational modeling, bioinformatics, and data management for the University of Wisconsin National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Center for Predictive Modeling of Infectious Diseases, the Oregon State University NIEHS Superfund Research program, and a Department of Homeland Security program for Predictive Modeling of Viral Infections.
