Biography

Jamie Hughes is a seasoned leader dedicated to driving mission impact and creating strategic opportunities that align Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) expertise with sponsor priorities. As Interim Director for the Program Development Office within the National Security Directorate at PNNL, Ms. Hughes excels at building connections between laboratory capabilities, staff expertise, and sponsor missions to advance national security objectives. Her prior role as Director of the Defense, State, and International Affairs Sector highlighted her ability to strategically position PNNL’s capabilities in support of diverse and vital security missions.

Throughout her 15-plus-year tenure at PNNL, Ms. Hughes has delivered high-impact results in roles that span project management, sector leadership, and organizational growth. As leader of the Cyber Security Group, she guided over 80 researchers in expanding cybersecurity capabilities, ensuring alignment with sponsor needs. Her leadership of cross-disciplinary teams fueled mission-critical innovation, including managing PNNL’s multimillion-dollar programs, such as a Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence program, which has been executed in 50-plus countries. Ms. Hughes fosters meaningful connections between staff expertise and sponsor priorities, ensuring that capabilities are effectively leveraged to address complex security challenges.

Ms. Hughes holds an MBA and a BA in Russian languages and literature and is a certified Project Management Professional. She is an alumna of the Department of Energy Project Leadership Institute.
