Biography

Cheslan (Ches) Simpson is a physicist and senior scientist within the National Security Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). He provides solutions for project teams as a principal investigator and project manager.

His research spans multiple government agencies who develop, test, and deploy radiation detection equipment. His experience includes detector development; algorithm development; detector testing and evaluation; and non-destructive assay of nuclear materials.

He is passionate about mentoring students and staff and helps to recruit talented individuals to PNNL. Through his scientific work and in collaboration with scientists at PNNL and other national laboratories, Simpson helps to train, mentor, and place students at PNNL and within the broader national laboratory complex.

Prior to joining PNNL, Simpson was a scientist and team leader at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
