Biography
Brie Van Cleve is an advisor within the Electricity Infrastructure and Buildings Directorate at PNNL. Brie rejoined PNNL in April 2023 to advance stakeholder engagement, clean energy, and energy security planning. Brie supports the Energy & Environment Directorate’s Program Development Office as a subsector manger within the Electricity Infrastructure Sector.
Brie first joined PNNL in 2010 as a marine policy and aquatic scientist. In 2014, Brie was detailed to the Department of Energy to manage wind and water power stakeholder engagement and workforce activities before leaving to serve as a science and technology fellow to U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) in her role as Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (SENR) with jurisdiction over the U.S. Departments of Energy and Interior and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Brie continued her service on SENR under the leadership of Chairman Joe Manchin III (D-WV) as the senior energy advisor and energy team lead where she staffed a policy portfolio including the transitioning national energy mix, the electric grid, energy and cybersecurity, clean energy, and science and technology policy and managed a team of policy professionals to execute the Committee's energy, climate, and infrastructure agenda. In her team lead role, Brie was central in advancing recent national energy policy including the Energy Act of 2020, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021, the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
Prior to joining PNNL, Brie worked as a program manager for Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and a county water resources educator, among other things. She is a native Washingtonian and is currently based in PNNL's Washington, DC office.
