At PNNL, we have formalized several community groups and councils that offer staff the opportunity to provide leadership, build community, and help shape the WE culture of PNNL. These groups work directly with leaders from across the laboratory to help drive awareness of key focus areas and implement forward-thinking improvements that create a greater sense of inclusion and belonging for all PNNLers.
Employee Resource Groups
We value and seek to understand unique perspectives as we build a culture of inclusion. To elevate diverse voices and foster community, our Employee Resource Groups offer professional, educational, and social activities that move us closer to WE culture. The groups host speakers and events, connect with community groups, share resources, and create safe spaces for dialogue.

Diversity & Inclusion Councils
Our Directorate Diversity and Inclusion Councils align to each of our main business units, or directorates, and help inform and drive the development and execution of our diversity and inclusion strategies. They accomplish this by implementing community building, business practices, and culture according to the unique needs of that directorate, providing leadership and recommendations to key PNNL leaders within their directorate.
Laboratory Diversity & Inclusion Council
The purpose of the Laboratory Diversity and Inclusion Council is to support the development and execution of the Laboratory’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) strategy by providing advice and counsel to senior leadership. The council represents each directorate diversity and inclusion council and each employee resource group, helping provide a valuable voice and perspective for PNNL throughout our organization as we build our We Culture.
New Hire Network
Helping new employees start their job confidently and successfully is incredibly important at PNNL. From the start, we connect each person with a social network of other newly hired PNNLers, offer resources like our peer partner program, mentoring program, and unique learning journeys tailored to welcoming them to PNNL. New hires have immediate access to employee resource groups and other communities. We are committed to making sure they know they belong here, and we want to be sure them feel welcomed.
