The new offices of DeJoy, Knauf, & Blood, LLP in Rochester NY feature all solid state lighting, with eight different types of organic light-emitting diode luminaires. This was a chance to see and document the performance of an architectural space using OLEDs, in terms of efficacy, color, flicker, light levels, visual comfort, energy use, dimming, and appearance. Although the efficacy ranges of the luminaires are still well below the performance of LEDs, the installation demonstrates a solid state light source that is planar rather than a point source of light. Reported user acceptance was very high. Four luminaires were photometered by an independent laboratory so that future performance could be tracked.
