Biography
Shady Ahmed, PhD, is a postdoctorate research associate in the Physical and Computational Sciences Directorate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Since joining PNNL in August 2022, he has been developing scientific machine learning frameworks aimed at accelerating the solution of complex dynamical systems governed by partial differential equations. Dr. Ahmed’s pioneering research integrates deep learning methodologies with numerical simulations. He leverages extensive expertise in scientific computing, reduced-order modeling, uncertainty quantification, and parameter estimation.
Dr. Ahmed earned his PhD in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Oklahoma State University. His remarkable accomplishments earned him the PNNL Distinguished Fellowship in Scientific Computing, an honor supported by the Department of Energy’s Advanced Scientific Computing Research program. Before that, he was recognized as a Wallace Givens Associate at Argonne National Laboratory, where he contributed to developing stochastic learning algorithms for optimal experimental design. His prolific research career has produced numerous peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Additionally, he has developed open-source software tools, further underscoring his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and practical applications in his field.
