Biography

Joseph (Joe) Lenaeus has managed the Security Operations Office within PNNL's National Security Directorate since 2018. Joe joined the Lab in 2005 to lead the migration of PNNL's national security systems to a diskless network, which was mandated by DOE. In 2012, Joe became the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) for Classified Cyber Security. As the ISSM, Joe led the Classified Cyber Security Management and Operations Program. Then he became the Field Intelligence Element (FIE) IT Manager and ISSM.

In 2018, Joe became the group leader for the Security Operations Office. When the group leader and FIE director positions were combined in 2020, Joe shifted to the role of developing and maturing FIE processes. In 2022, Joe resumed his role as the group leader of the Security Operations Office.

The PNNL FIE provides products and services to DOE, the Intelligence Community (IC), and non-IC federal agencies. The mission of the PNNL FIE is to apply PNNL’s scientific discoveries and successes to solving today's IC challenges.

Joe's team includes the Special Security Office (SSO), the Information Assurance (IA) Team, the classified IT team, financial specialists who support classified projects, and the polygraph team for the DOE enterprise.

In his role, Joe collaborates regularly with the Department of Energy's Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence and the Pacific Northwest Site Office.
