Harry R. Millwater Jr.
Biography
Harry Millwater’s technical interests and experience are concentrated in the field of computational structural mechanics and structural integrity with an emphasis on probabilistic methods and applications. He has over thirty years of experience in the application of probabilistic mechanics methods to aerospace components, aircraft structures, and gas turbine engine disks.
He has been a key contributor to three major risk assessment software development efforts serving as the primary system integrator of the Numerical Evaluation of Stochastic Structures Under Stress (NESSUS) probabilistic finite element program and the R&D 100 award-winning Design Assessment of Reliability With INspection (DARWIN) for gas turbine rotors, and as principal investigator for the Small Aircraft Risk Assessment Software (Smart|DT). Â
Millwater developed the hypercomplex finite element method, ZFEM, that uses hypercomplex algebra to compute arbitrary-order high-accuracy shape, material property, and loading sensitivities from linear and nonlinear transient solid mechanics problems. The ZFEM has been used successfully in the fields of thermoelasticity, linear and nonlinear fracture mechanics, transient heat transfer, wave propagation, and others.
