As part of a recent Duke University workshop that focused on these questions, we developed three recommendations: (1) Regularize and institutionalize a transparent and credible SCC updating process; (2) Refine the way the science is translated into an official government SCC estimate; and (3) Prioritize scientific inquiry to improve the SCC calculation. Below, we review the basics of calculating the SCC and expand on these recommendations.
