This project was performed as a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the participants: Antares Group Inc., Eastman Chemical Company, Galleon, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). Funding from the federal government was provided by the Office of the Biomass Program (OBP) within the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy assistant secretariat through the Biomass Research and Development Initiative solicitation (DE-PS36-04GO94002. The 3-year project was initiated in August 2004 with formal signing of the CRADA in May 2005. This report describes the results of the work performed by PNNL. It is considered CRADA-protected information and is not available for public disclosure. Support to commercialization efforts is also addressed here, and publications/presentations produced during the project are listed. The work conducted during this project involved developing an innovative process for gasification of wet biomass in the presence of catalysts; evaluating process concept; and designing a pilot plant and a conceptual commercial facility to determine processing costs.
