The invention is software for processing underwater video to detect when fish are present. It is specifically aimed at being effective on video recorded in energetic (turbulent) environments, where there is often a significant amount of clutter from floating debris and bubbles. The detection algorithm uses optical flow to characterize motion in the scene, and detects the motion signature of fish, which is different than that of debris or bubbles.
