I am currently a post-doc at PNNL, working with Dr. L. Ruby Leung. I started my research at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP), Chinese Academy of Sciences with Dr. Tianjun Zhou as my supervisor. During my graduate period, I mainly focused on the inter-annual and decadal variability of East Asian summer monsoon. After obtaining my PhD from IAP in 2015, I became a post-doc at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego to work with Dr. Guang Zhang on the double-ITCZ and convection schemes. In September 2017, I joined PNNL to start my new research career. I focus on the modeling of mesoscale convection system and its response to global warming, especially the role of large-scale environment.

Research Interests

  • My research interests cover not only climate variability and climate change, but also climate model evaluation and improvement. In other words, everything about climate can catch my eye. Both observational datasets and climate model are used to investigate what happens in our climate world. Specially, I am interested how the large-scale atmospheric circulation systems (including monsoon, subtropical high and Hadley cell) vary at inter-annual, decadal and long-term time scales. At small scale, how convection occurs in the real world and how to represent it realistically in the climate model also occupy my brain. I am also wondering how large-scale circulation changes affect the convection system, especially organized convection systems at both mid-latitudes and tropics.
