Biography

Law is responsible for the integrated user program supporting EMSL’s vision and mission, including policies, procedures, user feedback and reporting metrics. She collaborates with other facility directors and managers to offer joint research oppportunities. She manages and leads the user support team and activities, including the development and advertisement of calls for proposals, management of the peer-review and allocation processes, user access and training and user surveys and reporting. Past accomplishments include defining and constructing performance measures and metrics for depicting, trending and analyzing the on-going effectiveness of EMSL as a user facility; developing web-based tools for researchers and peer reviewers to streamline instrument scheduling, project tracking, and peer reviews; and developing web-based customer feedback (survey) mechanisms to provide real-time information to management and users on customer satisfaction and facility reliability. Law is a member of the Operations Committee for the Society for Science at User Research Facilities (SSURF). SSURF's mission is to advance the science performed at user research facilities by 1) supporting their professional communities and research networks through the sharing of best practices and facilitation of professional development, and 2) promoting public awareness about the benefits and significance of the facilities and their research. SSURF grew from a grass-roots organization of administrators for user facilities to a not-for-profit professional society dedicated to providing a platform for communities of practice, including User Executive Committee chairs, user research facility directors and managers, communications managers and writers, government affairs liaisons, scientific society representatives, and individual researchers. As a member, Law frequently engages with National User Facility directors and managers to benchmark and share best practices and to advance policy changes at the programmatic and national levels that benefit the communities of expertise that are active at the National User Facilities.
