Dr. Nikolay Petrik's main expertise is in field of radiation-induced processes at surfaces and interfaces induced by photons, electrons, gamma rays and other sources of radiation. These studies include primary events, migration of electronic excitation, and desorption of molecular and atomic products. Before joining Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 1997, Dr. Petrik worked as a senior scientist at the All-Russian Research Institute of Complex Power Technology (VNIPIET) in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Research Interests

  • Thermal and non-thermal (photo-, electron-) chemistry of various molecules (O2, H2O, CO, CO2, TMAA, Ar, Kr, Xe, and others) on the surface of oxides (TiO2, ZrO2, and others) and metals (Pt, Pd, Zr and others)
  • Radiation-induced processes in water and organic nano-films induced by low energy electrons
  • Structure and hydrogen bonding of small molecules on metal and oxide surfaces (e.g., TiO2(110), Pt(111), and others)
  • Electron- and photon-simulated luminescence in condense matter and heterogeneous systems
  • Photoionization of liquid nano-jets
