Chuck Peden Elected AAAS Fellow
Congratulations to Dr. Charles HF Peden of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory on being named a Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The AAAS is the world's largest general scientific society and publishes the journal Science. The Association gives the honor of Fellow to members who have made particularly distinguished scientific contributions.
Peden is at the forefront of research to control diesel and other engine emissions. He was selected for his "distinguished contributions to the fundamental understanding of catalyst materials and processes for vehicle emission control that have enabled the implementation of new technologies."
At PNNL, Peden is the interim director of the Institute for Integrated Catalysis. The Institute provides a fundamental understanding of catalytic materials to solve industrial, energy and environmental problems. He has written or contributed to 190+ peer-reviewed publications. He is active in the American Chemical Society, currently serving as chair of the newly established Catalysis Science and Technology Division; the North American Catalysis Society, acting as program co-chair for the 21st Meeting of the NACS; AVS; and the Society of Automotive Engineers.
In February 2009, Peden will be recognized at the Fellows Forum during the AAAS national meeting in Chicago.
