Congratulations to Dr. Elias Nakouzi on receiving a Linus Pauling Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship. Granted by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, the fellowship funds early career scientists and engineers who are pushing the scientific boundaries.

Known for his wide-ranging research into material formation, Nakouzi studies crystallization, growth aggregation, and assembly. With his colleagues at IDREAM, he is developing the tools needed to visualize and analyze the water-based layers that form where minerals meet liquids. Such interfaces are critical to investigating the structure and dynamics of an aluminum compound (boehmite) aggregation, which is of interest both in aluminum production and nuclear waste processing. Dr. James De Yoreo, also an IDREAM team member, is his mentor at the national laboratory.

The Interfacial Dynamics in Radioactive Environments and Materials (IDREAM) Energy Frontier Research Center is funded by the Department of Energy, Office of Science, Basic Energy Sciences.
