Adkins Honored with Lab Director's Award for Exceptional Achievement
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) scientist Josh Adkins received the 2006 Laboratory Director's Early Career Achievement Award, October 11, 2006, from Laboratory Director Len Peters. The award recognizes outstanding published scientific contributions by PNNL individuals near the beginning of their professional careers. Adkins, who was nominated by Battelle Fellow Dick Smith, was recognized for advancing comparative proteomics by multi-dimensional separations coupled with mass spectrometry.
During the past 5 years, Adkins has played a major role at PNNL in developing current strategies for quantitative proteomics applied to biological interpretation of factors affecting human health. He has conducted work on investigations of plasma and blood serum using the high-throughput accurate mass and time tag strategy developed at PNNL. This has led to his involvement in an initiative coordinated by the international Human Proteome Organization (HUPO).
Adkins also manages a 5-year, $10.3M program for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases that is conducting a quantitative and comparative proteomics investigation of interactions between human hosts and pathogens. He has authored or co-authored 28 peer-reviewed research articles and is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Society of Mass Spectrometry, the Proteome Society, and HUPO.
