SPOKANE, Wash. — The future of a smart power grid could become more defined next week when a group of experts and government officials converge to tackle local and national policy. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Associate Laboratory Director Mike Davis and Engineer Rob Pratt will be among the group of panelists at the National Smart Grid Conference in Spokane, April 6 - 7, 2009.

The two-day session consists of a series of panel discussions and break out sessions in which participants will offer guidance for the future of smart grid development and implementation. Ultimately, the group discussions could shape local and national policy recommendations that Sen. Cantwell hopes will transform the use and delivery of electricity.

Davis advocates a national smart grid that is designed and implemented to deliver certain benefits including: accelerated integration of renewable energy sources; effective energy storage technologies; more electrified transportation; and many opportunities for end-use efficiency.

He and Pratt join other nationally recognized figures in the energy and policy arena including: Phil Moeller, Commissioner of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission; Steve Wright, Administrator of the Bonneville Power Administration; and officials from the U.S. Department of Energy and several western states.
