Resiliency of power systems under extreme operating conditions is critical, especially when the utility is not available for extended periods. System recovery efficiency can be enhanced by restoration of critical loads with local non-utility resources.
When disruptions occur, utilities send out crews and equipment to fix the system. Failed critical loads are identified and utility and non-utility available resources are prioritized to recover hospitals, rescue and control centers, among others.

PNNL researchers have develop resources, tools, and software oriented to help the energy sector to better predict and protect the grid against electric disruptions. Numerous utilities around the world are currently using PNNL developed tools and have incorporated them in their daily regular operations.
